Keeping Your Pool In Tip-Top Shape
A lot of things can go wrong with your pool. Like the human body, a pool needs repair and maintenance to each of its parts in order to work properly. We suggest these helpful tips:
- Skim your pool regularly: Skimming refers to gathering up leaves, branches, insects, and other debris floating on the surface of your pool. Skimming should be done weekly at the most, as catching this debris early can prevent them from sinking down and staining your pool walls. Consider trimming the branches of any trees near your pool to prevent debris from getting in your pool. After you’re done skimming, be sure to clean your skimmer.
-
Brush your pool walls: Any dirt on your pool walls should be washed, both on the sides and bottom of your pool. Your pool ladders and other fixtures should also be brushed and washed.
- Vacuum your pool. After brushing your walls, you should also vacuum the pool’s bottom to eliminate any other debris. An automatic vacuum is the most efficient, though you can use a manual one as well.
- Test your pool water. Pool water needs to be the ideal pH in order to prevent the growth of bacteria and algae. If your pool’s pH is too low, be sure to add more chemicals.
- Clean your pool filter. Your pool’s filter can become dirty quickly. Remove any debris clogging up the filter. You should also backwash the filter if your pool has been in constant use.
