What Is A Houston TX Remarcite Pool?
The traditional plaster pool finish is more commonly known as marcite. This plaster option is the simplest and most affordable option pool owners have. However, it is also the least durable option pool owners have. In fact, the average life span of marcite is only 8-12 years.
Marcite is typically made up of water, marble sand, and white cement. This cement can be dyed a limited range of colors. Most commonly, this range is limited to whites, greys, and blues.
However, most pool builders will not add pigment to their marcite. This is because low-end pigments streak and discolor easily, thereby shortening the already lower life span of your pool finish.
Some companies, like Wet Edge, use high-quality powdered pigments in superior plaster mixes to offer a range of richly colored finishes.
What Makes A Superior Plaster?
For Wet Edge, it is a sand substitution. Most plasters are made using marble sand. In their two styles of superior plaster, Wet Edge substitutes some of all of this sand with quartz sand.
Quartz is a harder material than marble making it more difficult to chip, scratch, or discolor. The addition of quartz sand significantly increases the durability and lifespan of your plaster finish.
Firstly, Altima has the look and feel of regular plaster with the durability increased by replacing 35% of the marble sand with quartz sand.
Secondly, Luna Quartz has the texture of regular plaster with a uniquely speckled appearance. 100% of the marble sand is replaced with quartz sand in this style.
The lifespan of plasters with some or all of their marble sand replaced is approximately 10-15 years.
Options Beyond Plaster
Beyond your choices of marcite and more durable plasters, there are two other surface types to choose from – polished and exposed aggregate. Some polished finishes also feature aggregate accents.
The term aggregate refers to the small objects added to pool finishes to improve their durability and aesthetic. Common aggregates include pebbles, colored glass beads, and shells.
In keeping with the previous Wet Edge example, Wet Edge has 4 such styles of pool finishes.
Of these four lines, one sports a polished finish. Primera Stone features all three types of aggregates Wet Edge offers – pebbles, colored glass beads, and shells.
Unlike the remaining three styles, the final stage of the application process involves a polishing process rather than an exposure process. Because of this, no aggregate is exposed for texture. The aggregate offers beautiful, eye-catching accent colors, but the surface texture is evenly smooth.
The other three styles fall into the premium pebble finish category, as all three feature pebbles as their main aggregate.
Firstly, Signature Matrix only features pebbles of smaller sizes.
Secondly, Prism Matrix features similarly smaller pebbles as well as colored glass beads.
And finally, Serenity Stone offers a luxuriously smooth feel that mimics the bottom of a riverbed with larger pebbles and colored glass bead aggregate.
Tile Coping
If you plan to remarcite or replaster your pool with Wet Edge or another product, there is one more way to boost the life span and aesthetic of your pool.
Tile coping is the line of pool tile that wraps around the top section of your pool. This style choice offers more benefits than simple decoration.
When installed correctly in a concrete, shotcrete, or gunite pool, tile coping can increase your marcite’s resistance to cracking and chipping. The pop of color also disguises the scum ring that can form around the waterline of your pool. And finally, tile does not absorb heat on hot sunny days the way some other materials do. This helps protect your skin when you lean against or walk on the edges of your pool.
Renovations or Additions
A resurfacing project is a perfect opportunity to make additions or renovations to your pool.
Have your needs changed? Maybe you now have children, pets, or disabled loved ones who would love to use your pool. We can help you design additions and renovations to accommodate their unique needs.
Instead, have your wants changed? Do you wish you had originally chosen to include water features, tanning ledges, or a spa? We can add those with no problem during the resurfacing process.
