Pools Raise Your Home Value

Pools are an amenity many homeowners choose to invest in for two reasons. Firstly, cooling off on a hot summer day in a private and clean area designed to your tastes and needs is like relaxing in your own private oasis. And secondly, many homeowners hope to raise the value of their homes.

So the big question is, do pools increase the value of a home? In 2019, the real estate website Redfin said yes! Redfin found that pools in the Houston metro area that were well-built and well-maintained raised home values by more than $16 per square foot!

Jr Pool Plastering and Texas Gunite have been serving pool and homeowners in the Greater Houston area for over 40 years. We have the equipment and expertise to take on any pool repair, upgrade, or remodeling project. Make us the subcontractor you trust to transform your pool into a beautiful, functional, safe, and valuable home element.

Update Your Pool

Your pool is the centerpiece of your backyard. It is a great place for friends and family to gather on those hot summer days. At JR Pool Plastering and Texas Gunite, we understand how important it is for this part of your home to be functional, beautiful, and safe.

If any element of your pool is not functioning as it should, it is unsafe for any of your loved ones or just doesn’t look how you’d like it to, then remodel with us! Is your equipment as outdated as your chipped and faded pool finish? Update both today!

Have your needs changed since you first invested in your pool? Maybe you now have young children, elderly loved ones, disabled loved ones, or pets who cannot safely use your pool. If so, contact our local experts to discuss a plan to make your pool look stunning while functioning in a way that fulfills all your needs.

Plaster

Is your outdated plaster cracked, stained, or discolored? Call us to look at any cracks and make sure your pool isn’t leaking. If you own a chlorine pool, we may be able to clean some stains with an acid wash. If your plaster or other finish just isn’t looking like it used to, it is time to invest in replastering or refinishing your pool. We recommend completing this process every 10 – 15 years at the latest.

Traditional pool plaster, also known as marcite, only has a life span of approximately 8 years. Don’t settle for another round of mediocre marcite. Consider upgrading to a Wet Edge finish.

If you like the look and feel of plaster but want something more durable, we have two Wet Edge products that are perfect for you! If you prefer a smooth, polished surface, we can do that too! What about replicating a luxuriously smooth riverbed? We have three premium pebble finish options for you to choose from! For the highest quality pool replastering and refinishing guaranteed, call JR Pool Plastering and Texas Gunite today!

Coping

Another functional personal flair you can add to your pool is coping. Coping is the tile or stone placed around the edge of a pool either along the inside lip or around the outside edge. The installation of this stone or tile offers three main benefits to pool owners.

Firstly, if installed around the inside lip of a pool, it can help disguise the scum ring that sometimes forms at a pool’s waterline. Secondly, if installed around the inside lip of a pool with a concrete shell, it can prevent the concrete from cracking when your pool experiences major weather changes. And lastly, anywhere it is installed, coping will protect your skin from burning on hot summer days when you walk around or lounge against the edge of your pool.

Beyond these benefits, coping provides the opportunity for beautiful stone or colorful tile accents. These can be tied into your landscaping and seating area color schemes to give your pool and its surrounding area a cohesive look.

Trust Us With All Your Pool Needs!

If you are in need of a minor repair, a new pool finish, a major addition, or a total renovation, we are the subcontractor to trust to get the job done correctly and efficiently.

At JR Pool Plastering and Texas Gunite, we recommend the use of gunite, a type of sprayable cement, in most additions and renovations as it drastically increases your flexibility during the design process. With gunite, we can create clean, sharp edges or gently flowing curves with ease. This is particularly useful when installing custom built-in planters or spas, and when changing the shape of pools.

Major renovations, such as extending your pool or adding a tanning ledge or spa, will all be constructed using a similar process. This process goes through several stages likely beginning with excavation followed by a wooden framework, the pouring of cement bases, the laying of a rebar grid that will be made into a 3D rebar cage-like structure, the spraying and then curing of gunite, and finally the plastering and finishing of the pool element.

Remodeling

Any pool project requiring excavation, replastering, or refinishing can provide the perfect opportunity to make additions or improvements to your pool and its surrounding area.

Add a tanning ledge in that sunny spot you wish you could lounge in. Extend a tanning ledge or step and install spouting fountains to make a splash and play area for young kids. Add a custom built-in planter in the curve of your freeform oasis and add those missing palm trees. Make the edge of your spa a perimeter overflow or infinity edge to help that section of your pool flow more seamlessly into the rest. You can even combine a powerful fire feature with a fountain or waterfall for a one-of-a-kind accent piece.

Saltwater

We strongly recommend the use of gunite for your remodeling projects, especially larger projects that require major changes or additions to your pool. If you opt to use gunite for these projects or if you have a pool shell made of concrete, shotcrete, or gunite, we do not recommend the use of salt water.

Many pool owners choose to invest in saltwater pools over chlorine pools believing they are the cheaper and easier option. While it may be easier to monitor the pH of your pool, saltwater pools end up being more expensive in the long run. If your pool shell is made of concrete or you do not add a beautiful and protective pool finish over the plaster layer, choosing saltwater means having to resurface your pool far more frequently.

Saltwater pools have a tendency to make the surfaces of pools rougher by breaking down plaster more quickly than a chlorine pool will. Because pools with concrete shells typically have a rougher surface already, you will need to replaster your pool more often. If you do not replaster your pool regularly, you will raise your risk for cracks and leaks developing in your pool’s shell.

Chlorine

If you own a chlorine pool, it is incredibly important to keep your pool’s pH in the proper range. Not keeping up with your pool’s pH will result in several consequences.

Low chlorine levels can cause calcium deposits to form on your pool’s surface. This can make the surface of your pool rough enough to cause minor scrapes and requires an acid wash to remove. Low chlorine levels can also lead to cloudy water and algae growth.

High chlorine levels can lead to skin irritation, eye irritation, and mild nausea. It can also damage pool equipment, break down plaster, or even burn your pool’s finish!
