What Is Gunite?
A popular form of sprayable concrete, gunite is a material that allows pool builders to offer a uniquely high level of flexibility in their design process. Gunite can easily be manipulated to take on any shape, so if you can dream it, we can bring it to life.
At JR Pool Plastering and Texas Gunite Ltd., we offer the two most popular forms of sprayable concrete: gunite and shotcrete. Both are more cost-effective and tie-effective than regular cement; however, we prefer gunite.
The main differences between these two concretes are ingredients and how water is added to the mixture. Shotcrete adds sand, gravel, and accelerating additives to pre-mixed concrete.
Gunite, on the other hand, is a dry concrete mix combined with sand. This dry mixture is sprayed through a high-pressure hose, and water is added as it is sprayed. This gives the crew the most control over water addition throughout the application process.
The Customizable Design Stage
Whether you are looking to upgrade or add to an existing pool with us, we offer hundreds of customizable options.
A few popular customizable features include:
- Water features such as fountains, natural ponds, and waterfalls
- 5 different styles of relaxing spas
- And 6 different styles of tanning ledges
Webster TX Gunite Pool Construction Process
If you decide to totally renovate or build a custom pool with us from scratch, your construction process will look something similar to this:
The first stage will prepare the area your pool will occupy. This will start with a demolition or excavation process. It’s time to frame once the area is measured, cleared, and leveled.
Two different frames are used to mark off the area for your pool. First, a wooden framework marks the perimeter of all areas to be built, including the below-ground pool, above-ground pool, deck, and patio areas.
Afterward, a support structure grid of steel bars will be constructed. This will give the gunite its shape as your pool shell is formed.
Next, your plumbing and electrical components will be measured, fitted, and installed. Following the installation, a cement floor will be poured to boost your pool’s durability and stability. Finally, gunite will be sprayed over the grid to form the shell of your pool.
The completed shell will have to be cured for several days. This process boosts the durability and lifespan of your pool because it protects the shell from the cracking and shrinkage cement pools are known to experience during major weather changes.
Flexibility of Gunite
A major benefit of gunite, besides its cost-effective durability and life span, is its flexibility of design. Gunite can easily be manipulated to take on any desired shape. Therefore, we can make it a reality if you can dream it.
Are you interested in a modern aesthetic? Something with minimalist-inspired clean lines? We can design and build your geometric dream with no problem.
Instead, are you interested in something gently free-flowing? Maybe something that replicates a beachfront or oasis? Again, not a problem. Using gunite, we can build pools and accompanying features of any shape and style.
We can also repair, upgrade, or add to existing pools easily using gunite. Are you interested in adding tanning ledges, water features, or an in-ground spa? JR Pool Plastering and Texas Gunite Ltd. has the Webster TX gunite pool experts for any project.
Is Salt Water Safe To Use In A Gunite Pool?
We don’t recommend the use of salt water in your Webster TX gunite pool.
Two major drawbacks of saltwater pools are the increased risk of staining and the erosion of surfacing, which causes a rougher pool bottom. Both of these commonly lead to more frequent pool resurfacing.
Because cement-based pools already have a rougher pool bottom, these drawbacks will act even more quickly. Therefore, while saltwater pools may have a lower annual maintenance cost, they are the most expensive choice in the long run.
