All About Cinco Ranch TX Gunite Pool Construction
If you choose to fully renovate an existing swimming pool, your construction process will begin with a demolition stage. Either stage will result in a large leveled hole in which our crew will build the gunite shell of your pool.
After the hole is prepared, a wooden framework will be built. This will outline the perimeter of what we plan to build. It will include all below-ground pools, above-ground pools, walls, tanning ledges, water features, decks, or patios included in the design.
Next, a second, more detailed grid will be added. Rather than wood, this grid will be made of steel bars. This will be the support system for your gunite pool shell. A cement floor will be poured to secure the grid and provide additional stability to your pool.
And finally, the gunite will be sprayed over the grid, and your pool will begin to take shape before your eyes! The completed shell will have to be set and cured for several days. This drastically improves the durability and life of your pool.
Following the curing process, a water-proof plaster seal will be added to your pool. This layer will be surfaced and finished to your specifications. Lastly, after this layer, your custom details will be provided. Any desired coping, tile, or aggregate will be added at this stage.
So, What Is Gunite?
Gunite for pools is a dry combination of sand and cement mix. It becomes the cement used to form your pool shell by being sprayed through a high-pressure hose while water is being added. This is one of two popular forms of sprayable cement. The second form, known as shotcrete, combines sand with a wet form of cement as well as gravel and accelerating additives.
At JR Pool Plastering & Texas Gunite Ltd., we can use either form. Both are more cost-effective and time-effective than regular concrete but typically recommend the use of gunite in your pool renovation.
The Design Stage
Your Cinco Ranch TX gunite pool is highly customizable, and the possibilities for custom pool features are almost endless! With the versatility gunite offers, if you can dream it, we can build it. We offer several water feature options, from ponds to fountains to the ever-popular waterfall.
Are you interested in a relaxing spa or hot tub? We have five different styles for you to choose from that differ by shape and entrance. Does your dream pool include a place to easily lounge in the cool water? Check out our six different styles of tanning ledges.
Beyond these major features, every visual element is fully customizable. You can hand-pick your finish, texture, stair or ladder placement, and everything down to the color of your tiles or coping during the design stage. Our experts, with over 20 years of experience, will be there to guide you every step of the way.
What Are the Benefits of Gunite Pools?
The two main benefits of pools with gunite shells are versatility and durability. Are you interested in a geometric and modern style pool? Something defined by minimalism and clean lines? We can update a precisely measured pool with perfectly placed tanning ledges and water features to fit your ideal aesthetic.
Are you more interested in a gently curving or free-flowing pool design? Maybe something with a gently sloping tanning ledge to mimic a beachfront or something to compliment your beautiful landscape? With the flexibility of gunite, we can bring your oasis dreams to life.
The second major benefit of gunite is its increased durability when compared to regular cement. Gunite is significantly less likely to crack or shrink over time despite any major weather changes it may face. That’s why gunite remains one of the best materials to use as your pool’s shell.
Gunite Pools And Salt Water
Many people who invest in pools choose to invest in saltwater pools because the annual maintenance cost is typically lower. However, there are two major drawbacks to saltwater pools that are especially prevalent in gunite pools.
Firstly, saltwater pools are more likely to experience plaster staining. This often occurs when leaves or other debris sit at the bottom of a pool for too long. The metallic byproducts in saltwater pools make this more likely to occur.
Secondly, salt water has a tendency to roughen the bottom of pools and can ruin your plaster or surfacing. Because concrete-based pools already have rougher surfaces, this leads to excessive wear on your plaster. Over time, this makes saltwater pools far more of an expensive investment because you will have to consistently resurface your pool.
