What Is A Sugar Land TX Gunite Pool?
Gunite is one of two popular forms of sprayable cement. This form combines sand and a dry concrete mix, and water is added to it as it is sprayed out of a high-pressure hose. The resulting spray forms the solid shell of your pool.
The second form is known as shotcrete. The main differences between the two are when water is added and the two or more added ingredients in shotcrete. This second form uses a pre-mixed wet concrete form to add sand, gravel, and accelerating agents.
At JR Pool Plastering and Texas Gunite Ltd., we can use either concrete, but we tend to recommend gunite. Both forms are more cost-efficient than regular concrete, but gunite gives our crew more control over the application process.
The Design Stage
Whether you decide to upgrade an existing pool or design a custom pool from scratch, we offer several pool features for you to choose from.
Firstly, we offer hundreds of options within three main categories of water features: ponds, fountains, and waterfalls.
Want to relax in a custom spa or hot tub? We have five different styles to choose from! Furthermore, we offer six different styles of tanning ledges.
Sugar Land TX Gunite Pool Construction
If you decide to renovate or build a custom pool with us totally, your construction process will begin with a demolition or excavation stage. This stage allows us to measure and prepare the area your Sugar Land TX gunite pool will occupy.
After clearing and leveling the area, it must be prepared for construction. Two guiding formations are built to do this.
Firstly, a wooden framework is built. The framework marks the perimeter of all underground, above-ground, deck, and patio areas to be built.
Secondly, a grid is formed of steel bars. This grid will be the support system on which the gunite is sprayed. Essentially, it is what gives your pool its shape.
Before the gunite is sprayed over the grid, piping and electric devices such as skimmers and drains will be measured, fitted, and installed. Next, a cement floor will be poured to give your soon-to-be pool shell increased stability and durability. Then, the gunite will be sprayed, and your pool shell will be completed.
The completed shell will then cure for several days. This allows the cement to be fully set, protecting it against the cracking and shrinkage sometimes caused by major weather changes. By allowing your pool shell to cure properly, you increase the lifespan of your pool significantly.
Once properly cured, the gunite shell will be covered in a waterproofing plaster seal. The plaster seal will also include any requested finishing touches, such as coping, colored tile, or aggregate.
Flexibility Of Gunite
Sprayable cements like gunite are popular for a reason—their flexibility of design. Granite can be manipulated to take on any shape or style you want.
Are you interested in a modern geometric aesthetic, something defined by sharp, clean lines? Using gunite, we can build you a precisely measured, beautiful, minimalist-inspired space.
Alternatively, we can build a gently curving, free-flowing, watery oasis with perfectly fitted landscaping.
Whatever your desired aesthetic and needs, we can build the perfect watery oasis for you! Call our Houston office today and ask our experts how we can help bring your vision to life.
Is Salt Water Safe?
Many pool owners across Texas opt to invest in saltwater pools because of their low annual maintenance costs. However, salt water is not recommended for use in gunite pools. Saltwater pools are more likely to stain and ruin your pool’s surfacing. Furthermore, salt water tends to wear down the surfacing on the bottoms of pools and make them rougher on your feet.
Because cement-based pools tend to be rougher, these two common complaints mean that you will likely have to invest in resurfacing your pool more often when using salt water. This makes saltwater pools the far more expensive option in the long run.
